ESS Field Sprayers

Crop spraying using conventional sprayers is not very effective: 80 to 85% of the spraying agent end up on the ground instead of on the plants and only about 3% reach the underside of the leaves.

The University of Georgia has developed a method to improve the spraying efficiency considerably.

The method is based on electrostatical charging of the the spraying agent. The electrically charged agent is attracted by the plants und also reaches the underside of the leaves.

The overall effect is a massive reduction of spraying agent:

  • About 60% of the spraying agent ends up on the plants (compared to only 15% to 20% using conventional spraying methods)
  • Only 5 to 7 gallons (20 to 30 litres) spraying agent per hectare are required
  • Overall cost for spraying agents can be reduced by 30 to 60%.

Swissfood Tech Management AG makes available sprayers based on electrostatical charging:

Row Crop Sprayer

The row crop sprayer is the first model available. Maximum available boom length will be about 16m.
