PhytO3: Pesticide-Free Food Production

The use of pesticides in agriculture is very common and is difficult to avoid. Pesticides are used to kill unwanted pests from fruits, vegetables and plants during their growth. Few farmers have managed to completely get rid of pesticides; some are trying to minimize their use. However, pesticides have several problems associated with them.

Getting rid of unwanted microbiological contamination is a common problem in the food processing industry - here, it's called "sterilization". PhytO3 applies some of the most sophisticated sterilization techniques to farming.

The PhytO3 method is environmentally friendly and does not leave any biological or chemical residues on the surface of the plants or in the environment. It has the same effect as pesticides, but avoids the issues associated with extensive use of chemicals on food.

The PhytO3 Method

PhytO3 consists of a combined treatment of the plants with ozonized water and ultraviolet light. This treatment has the following effects:

  • Any microbiological contamination is removed effectively
  • Small animals like beetles are washed to the ground but are not killed
  • The power of resistance of the plants against certain microbiological pests is increased (an effect known as "Systemic Acquired Resistance")
  • The efficiency of the method is comparable to that of a pesticide treatment
  • The spraying frequency is comparable to that of a pesticide treatment
  • There is no chemical contamination of the soil, although the soil surface is effectively sterilized
  • There is no residue of ozone on the customers' products

The PhytO3 method is patented.
